The Wings of Luvhondo experience invites you to shift your focus to the skies and riverbanks, where rare and fragile biodiversity thrives.
During the warm summer months, the reserve becomes a sanctuary for at least 216 documented species of butterfly and 88 species of dragonfly. This represents nearly a third of all dragonfly species found in South Africa.
Wonder on a miniature scale
Walk the cool edges of the Sand River. Watch dragonflies patrol the water’s surface, their wings catching the morning light in flashes of metallic blue and silver. Follow the flowering mountain slopes where massive butterfly migrations drift through the air in bursts of brilliant colour.
This activity demands stillness. It is a deliberate invitation to slow down and indulge in truly spectacular photography. Here, wonder exists on a miniature scale. Every hovering damselfly and resting butterfly reveal the sheer complexity of this ancient, thriving wilderness.
