Our story
Finding a home in the forgotten mountains
When we first discovered these mountains, historically nicknamed the "Forgotten Mountains", in 2020, we could not believe that such an extraordinarily vast area of incredible biodiversity was not under any form of significant protection.
The Soutpansberg mountains are one of a few areas in Southern Africa that are home to species found nowhere else on earth. Yet, the mountains lacked formal protection and faced devastating threats from mining companies. We knew that we had discovered a very special place and knew we had to get involved.
Our original search for a simple bush getaway became a commitment to rewilding and the large-scale restoration of this precious ecosystem. To protect this extraordinary place will take a village, and so we invite you to join us on our mission to ensure this landscape is protected, restored and rewilded.

A layered exploration
Our approach to exploring a vast space like this is like peeling an onion.
A traditional safari is just the outer layer of the journey. The full experience lies in the layers beneath.
We invite you to walk among thousand-year-old baobabs, plunge into secluded waterfall pools and track leopards on foot.
This environment forces you to slow down, hear the wind rustle through the leaves and finally hear yourself think again.
Reversing the clock on carbon
Few & Far Luvhondo is transforming 100 000 hectares of threatened wilderness into a vital carbon sink.
This is a measurable, physical intervention registered with the standard-setting body Verra that operates the Verified Carbon Standard, the world’s largest carbon-crediting programme.
We are working towards the sequestration of 100,000 tonnes of carbon every year. Our restoration work ensures our operation is carbon negative.
Celebrating and holding space
This is their story. Our job is simply to amplify it, protecting a living heritage of fireside storytelling and indigenous knowledge.
A zero-waste wilderness
We discarded the traditional, consumption-heavy hospitality model to create a fully sustainable operation deep in the Soutpansberg mountains.
Few & Far Luvhondo runs entirely on 100% renewable energy. Solar power drives every aspect of your stay, from the climate control in your suite to our upcoming Solyrus aerial cable car. We operate completely off the grid, proving that comfort and ecological responsibility can coexist seamlessly. We also anchor our farm-to-table culinary philosophy directly in the landscape. We harvest fresh produce straight from our own gardens and source meat and fish from nearby farms.
Seamless design
When you first see Few & Far Luvhondo emerge into view, you’d be forgiven for thinking this place wasn’t built on these mountains, but rather grew out of them. And this is by design – biophilic design, to be precise.
This nature-driven design philosophy ensures every structure blends with the landscape around it.
Get involved
When we first stepped into the Soutpansberg, the land issued a mandate. We knew it was not enough to merely build a lodge in these forgotten mountains. Revenue from hospitality would not be enough alone to protect this extraordinary region. This birthed the vision for the Few & Far Foundation.
The foundation exists to let others join us in protecting and rewilding the fragile ecosystems that sustain us.
Our goal is direct: we aim to raise $15-million over the next three years to radically expand our conservation footprint and rewild critical ecosystems.
