Growing a foundation for good
When we first stepped into the Soutpansberg, the land issued a mandate: it’s not enough to merely build a camp in these forgotten mountains; business must act as a force for good, stepping in where traditional conservation falls short. We needed a powerful engine to drive our 50-year commitment to protect 100 000ha of critical biodiversity.
This vision birthed the Few & Far Foundation.
The foundation exists to let others join us in protecting and rewilding the fragile ecosystems that sustain us. Our goal is direct: we aim to raise $15-million over the next three years to radically expand our conservation footprint. We do not just preserve what remains; we actively restore what is broken.
Luvhondo is where our story starts. Today, our teams manage and rehabilitate 30 000ha. We spend our days pulling invasive saplings, packing dense brush to slow rushing water, walking snare lines and monitoring leopard populations alongside Panthera and the Endangered Wildlife Trust. But a mountain range is an ecosystem, not a collection of isolated reserves. Wildlife does not recognise property boundaries. To truly heal this landscape, we must reconnect it.
Our immediate priorities for the landscape include:
- Bringing rhino back to the Soutpansberg to restore missing ecological relationships
- Sequestering 100 000 tonnes of carbon annually through rigorous habitat restoration
- Dropping fences to reconnect fragmented land into a single wilderness corridor
- Protecting endemic species and flora found nowhere else on earth
- Creating meaningful employment that ties local prosperity to conservation
We know this cannot be achieved by one lodge alone. It requires a coalition of landowners, scientists, the Venda community and travellers. Every guest who walks our ancient trails or helps our teams plant indigenous trees becomes part of this story of regeneration.
